Online Learning
We are excited to offer a set of online Continuing Education offerings this year. Each course will consist of weekly interaction with the instructor and others in the course. The courses will be eight weeks in length and will require approximately three to five hours online each week, plus readings. A maximum of 20 can register. The minimum is six.
1 Teaching and Preaching the Letters of Paul
Jenee Woodard, Biblical Studies teacher for the Seminary CLP training program / What did Paul have to say in his letters to congregations? What did it mean to them and what does it mean to us? How do we preach Paul and the pauline epistles in a way that is lively and a help to people in the pews today? This course is offered primarily as continuing education for Commissioned Lay Pastors, but it is open to ministers and other church leaders as well. / Jan. 11 – March 5, 2010 / $200 / 3.0 CEUs
2 Beyond Bullet Points: Preaching with Images
Erin S. Cox-Holmes, Associate General Presbyter, Presbytery of Kiskiminetas; and Edward Goode, Pastor, The Presbyterian Church of Wyoming, Cincinnati, OH / Do you have a screen in your sanctuary? Want to move beyond PowerPoint “fill in the blank” outlines? This course will cover the visual culture in which we live and how that affects preaching. It will cover the technical basics that anyone with a computer can do in order to use images with sermons. We will start with the “Why?’ and move on to the beginnings of “How?” This course is the first of two on this theme. / Jan. 11 – March 5, 2010 / $200 / 3.0 CEUs
3 Church Administration
Wayne A. Yost, General Presbyter, Presbytery of Kiskiminetas / This course will focus on the Biblical and theological foundations for church administration. It will look at the mission, ministry and maintenance of the church, and it will help participants think about their leadership style. We will examine stewardship, budgeting and program development, and implementation. The course is intended to be interactive with participants regularly engaged in online discussions. / Jan. 11 – March 5, 2010 / $200 / 3.0 CEUs
