Public Programs

The archaeology program at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary provides numerous opportunities for public education in biblical studies, archaeology, and ancient history.
Study
Scholars and students may visit the Bible Lands Museum and Barbour Library to study the Seminary's extensive collections of artifacts, archival materials, and slides relating to archaeology and biblical studies.
Courses and Lectures
The Seminary's courses in biblical archaeology and ancient history may be audited for a fee through the Continuing Education Department. An annual biblical archaeology lecture, which is free to the public, brings leading archaeologists to the Seminary to discuss their work and issues facing archaeologists today.
Visits and Tours
The Kelso Bible Lands Museum is open Wednesdays from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and the first Saturday of the month from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Additional hours vary by term. We also encourage visitors to call for an appointment to browse or enjoy a guided tour.
Field Trips and Classes
The Museum has developed curricula for students of different ages covering a spectrum of topics including the work of the archaeologist, daily life in ancient times, the origin and impact of writing, and ancient languages and scripts.
Study Tours
Every other year the Museum and the Continuing Education Program sponsor a study trip to biblical, early Christian, and other ancient sites in the Near East and Mediterranean.
The Zeitah Excavations
Volunteers are welcome, and do not need previous excavation experience. Experienced excavators supervise volunteers and teach excavation techniques. Volunteers must be at least 18-year-old and in excellent health.
