STEP 1 Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
All students applying for aid at PTS must file a Free Application for Federal Student Aid, FAFSA, with the Department of Education.
The FAFSA collects information used to calculate the Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The Department of Education provides the information to the school to help determine eligibility for Seminary aid, some outside scholarships, federal loans, and private loans.
There is no charge to file the FAFSA. It may be filed electronically or with the paper form.
FAFSA on the Web
Students are encouraged to apply online with FAFSA on the Web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. Help is available at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243).
A student must sign the FAFSA. It is easy to sign a FAFSA electronically with a PIN, Personal Identification Number. Filers may visit www.pin.ed.gov for a Department of Education Personal Identification Number (PIN) or they can be assigned one while completing the FAFSA.
The PIN serves as an electronic signature which allows the applicant to access and change the FAFSA information online. A PIN will also be used to sign a Federal Direct Loan or Graduate Plus Master Promissory Note. Students will use the same PIN each year.
Students are encouraged to use the IRS Data Retrieval Tool (IDR) while completing the FAFSA. This simplifies the process by allowing the filer to download income tax information directly into the FAFSA. By entering PTS's Federal School Code, G03356, the Financial Aid Office will be able to download your information.
Paper
A student may print a paper FAFSA from www.federalstudentaid.ed.gov or telephone the Department of Education at 800-433-3243 for the actual paper FAFSA. Filing by paper can increase processing time by six to eight weeks.
