Current Program AreasScience and TechnologyAll aspects of our lives are influenced by the advances in science and technology. Whether it is health care, human reproduction, global communication, or business practices every advancement questions accepted ethics and values. The programs in this area will delve into the underlying values that will determine the legal and ethical decisions that face our communities and society as a whole. Spirituality and Ethics in the WorkplaceWork remains the single largest activity that most of us engage in during our lives. We struggle to balance work with other aspects but often there is more disconnection than connection. People seek ways to integrate their faith and spiritual values into their workplace. The programs directed to this topic will address issues, concerns, and policies affecting the workplace and investigate the larger questions of vocation and the meaning of work. Faith and HealthProbably no single area of our lives has changed more in the past 50 years than health care. We are bombarded daily by the advances and breakthroughs in biomedicine. Yet, we also know that disease, sickness, and suffering are very much a part of life. How can the communities of faith and medicine work cooperatively toward healing and integrative care? This program will explore the intersection of faith and health and the interrelationship of one to the other. Aging in SocietyWe are living longer, healthier, and more productive lives. What will this mean socially, economically, and religiously? Questions of the desirability of living longer, the costs for subsequent generations, and the kind of care to be provided in a society that values autonomy and independence will be explored in this program area.
