Field Education Placement ProceduresPositions are ordinarily posted in late February and March. Congregations and agencies should therefore seek to complete step two below no later than the end of February. 1. Students complete and return to the Field Education Office a copy of the Student Information Form to be used in the interview process. A copy of this form is placed in the student's file in the Field Education Office. Print copies are available from the Field Education Office. Click for a student form. 2. Congregations and agencies prepare and submit descriptions of the positions they are seeking to fill, using the Field Education Position Form available from the Field Education Office or the form on this web site. These completed forms are placed on file in the Field Education Office, and copies of appropriate pages are posted on the Field Education bulletin board for students to review. 3. Students indicate their interest in a posted position by signing up for an interview. 4. Once students have had sufficient time to indicate their interest, the congregation or agency is contacted by the Field Education Office to arrange for interviews. The interview process is generally handled in either of two ways: a) The congregation or agency schedules a time to send representatives to the seminary to conduct a series of interviews. The Field Education Office is responsible for reserving a room and informing students through the campus mail of the times and location of the interviews. Students are responsible for selecting in advance the time that fits best into their schedules and informing the Field Education Office of unusual circumstances in which there is a reason to cancel or reschedule an interview. b) The congregation or agency indicates a desire to be contacted directly by the students so that interviews may be scheduled individually, often on the field education site. The Field Education Office will contact students by campus mail, providing the name and telephone number of the person designated to schedule the interviews. 5. Prior to the interviews, the Field Education Office will mail copies of the Student Information Forms to the congregation or agency. 6. Interviews are usually 30 minutes in length when held at the Seminary and follow the same general pattern: introductions, committee reviews the position being offered (including past experiences of students on the site), student describes his or her interest and qualifications for the position, questions from the committee, questions from the student. When held on the field education site, interviews generally run longer to allow an opportunity for the student to tour the facilities. 7. Upon completion of the interviews, the congregation or agency informs the Field Education Office of its decisions, giving a priority listing of the students and indicating when a particular student is not appropriate for the position. 8. Once the Field Education Office has been informed, the congregation or agency may offer the position to the student it has chosen and, if the student accepts, negotiate the particular arrangements. The student must notify the Field Education Office of his or her decision. 9. Once a student has accepted a position, the congregation or agency is urged to contact the other students as a courtesy to inform them that the position has been filled.
