Doctor of Philosophy

Pittsburgh Theological Seminary participates in the University of Pittsburgh's
Cooperative Graduate Program in the Study of Religion. This program draws upon the
resources of both institutions and leads to the Ph.D. degree awarded by the University.
The aim of the program is to foster creative, interdisciplinary study in several areas:
Biblical Studies (Old and New Testament); History of Religions (chiefly Christianity and
Judaism, but work in Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism is also offered); Theology; Ethics;
Sociology and Anthropology of Religion; and Phenomenology of Religion. For
