Bio

The Rev. Dr. Lisa Thompson joined the faculty as assistant professor of homiletics in 2013. She earned her doctorate and master’s from Vanderbilt University and master of divinity from Fuller Theological Seminary. Thompson received the Lilly Faculty Fellowship in Theological Education and Program of Theology and Practice Fellowship from Vanderbilt and a Doctoral Fellowship from the Fund for Theological Education. Her research interests include practices of religion and their ability to influence social change. Her teaching experience includes the Association of Chicago Theological Schools Doctor of Ministry in Preaching Program, McCormick Theological Seminary, and Vanderbilt University. She is an ordained Baptist minister and has served in campus and parish settings. Thompson has offered numerous presentations in both the academic and church arenas. She is a member of the Academy of Homiletics, Society of Biblical Literature, and the American Academy of Religion. She is currently vice president of the African American caucus of the Academy of Homiletics.
