The Rev. Dr. Steven Tuell received his bachelor's from West Virginia Wesleyan College, his M.Div. from Princeton Theological Seminary, and his doctorate in Hebrew Bible from Union Theological Seminary in Virginia. Before coming to Pittsburgh, he taught at Erskine College, S.C. (1989-1992) and Randolph-Macon College, Va. (1992-2005), serving at both schools as department chair, and receiving numerous awards for teaching excellence. An ordained elder in the United Methodist Church, Tuell has served churches in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, West Virginia, and Virginia. However, the teaching and study of scripture is his calling and passion.

Tuell's particular research interest is the biblical literature of the early Persian period. He has written two books, a study of Ezekiel 40-48 in the Harvard Semitic Monographs series and a commentary on 1 and 2 Chronicles in the Interpretation series, and with John Strong has co-edited Constituting the Community: Studies on the Polity of Ancient Israel in Honor of S. Dean McBride, Jr. (Eisenbrauns 2005). Tuell has also written numerous scholarly articles and book reviews, and has been a frequent contributor to the United Methodist Publishing House Adult Bible Studies curriculum and Bible Reader series. He is now writing a commentary on Ezekiel.

He and his wife Wendy have three sons, Sean (a student at West Virginia Wesleyan College), Anthony (a student at the Robert E. Cook Honors College, Indiana University of Pennsylvania), and Mark (a high school student in North Allegheny). With the folk group Sweet Creek, they have performed at folk festivals and on West Virginia public radio.
