Temporary Library Facilities
The temporary library is housed in the Kadel Dining Room on the first floor of McNaugher Hall. It houses the full reference collection, circulation and reference services, new books and periodicals, DVDs, six computers with free copying and printing, and various spaces to study, meet, and eat. Hours for the temporary library are posted in the library calendar section of the library website.
Course reserves are shelved behind the circulation desk in the temporary library. The circulation desk is also where any interlibrary loan, on-campus, or off-campus holds are held for pickup. Books can be returned at the circulation desk during operating hours and in the book return located at the McNaugher breezeway entrance outside of operating hours. To contact the temporary library, call 412-924-1354 during operating hours.
The circulating portion of the library's regular collection is split between on- and off-campus storage locations. Those books in the Library of Congress call number range of BR-BX are held in storage spaces on campus. Those storage spaces are closed to the public for browsing, but those books can be requested through the catalog or with the assistance of a library staff member. These books can be identified in the library catalog by their location field, which reads "On-Campus Storage—Use Request Button to Page," and they are pulled from storage and held at the circulation desk for pickup at regularly scheduled intervals throughout the day. A library account in good standing is required to request materials without the help of a library employee.
The circulating portion of the collection in the Library of Congress call number ranges A-BQ and C-Z are held in storage spaces off of campus. These books can be identified in the library catalog by their location field, which reads "On-Campus Storage—Use Request Button to Page." Those books can also be requested through the catalog or with the assistance of a library staff member but are only delivered to campus twice a week, on Tuesdays and Fridays. A library account in good standing is required to request materials without the help of a library employee.
Additionally, some sections of the collection that are being stored off campus are not available for circulation or paging during the library renovation period. This includes archives, special collections, rare books, oversize books, and bound periodicals.
