\"\"Elizabeth Rose Vates, Member of The McMillan Society of Planned Giving<\/h3>\n

Elizabeth Vates was a dear friend of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. Over the years she was an active member of the PTS community, participating in various Seminary activities including our Leading Women Tea events and Miller Summer Youth Institute engagements.<\/p>\n

Elizabeth was a graduate of Wilson College, a private Presbyterian-related liberal arts college in Chambersburg, Pa. Her education led her on a career path as a trust officer for Mellon Bank. Those that knew her described her as a loving, generous, and thoughtful person who found joy in giving back. She was an avid supporter of the University of Pittsburgh\u2019s School of Medicine, Mercy Hospital, various Pennsylvania colleges, local churches, historical societies, and botanical gardens.<\/p>\n

As a friend of PTS, Elizabeth made numerous contributions to support the Seminary over the years. In particular, she focused her giving on the Barbour Library<\/a> and the Miller Summer Youth Institute<\/a>. She displayed a strong commitment to providing for the Seminary community and helping young people find guidance and direction from the church.<\/p>\n

In addition, Elizabeth was a member of Pittsburgh Theological Seminary\u2019s McMillan Society<\/a>. Members of the McMillan Society have expressed their commitment to Pittsburgh Theological Seminary through a very special and important form of financial support. These donors have named PTS as the ultimate beneficiary of a planned gift. Such gifts might include a bequest and\/or charitable income gifts, such as charitable gift annuities, charitable remainder unitrusts, charitable remainder annuity trusts, or gifts of life insurance.<\/p>\n

The PTS community was saddened to learn that Elizabeth passed away Oct. 4, 2020. While we continue to mourn her loss, we have learned that Elizabeth wasn\u2019t finished providing for the Seminary. To date, PTS has received more than $350,000 from Elizabeth\u2019s estate plan in support of the Barbour Library.<\/p>\n
