2018 Albright-Deering Lecture and Workshop

 

Lecturer

The Rev. Dr. F. Douglas (Doug) Powe Jr. 
Director of the Lewis Center for Church Leadership, James C. Logan Professor of Evangelism, and Professor of Urban Ministry at Wesley Theological Seminary

An ordained elder in the Baltimore-Washington Conference of The United Methodist Church, Powe is committed to helping urban congregations and congregations in transitional areas to flourish through community partnering. His research interests are church revitalization, urban theology, and Methodist theology. He received his doctorate from Emory University, his M.Div. from Candler School of Theology, and his bachelor's from Ohio Wesleyan University.

Overview

Dr. Powe will be at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary as the Albright-Deering Lecturer April 12, 2018. The day's events will include a morning workshop, chapel, and an afternoon lecture all led by Dr. Powe. 

For those who wish to stay for the full day, lunch is available for purchase in Kadel Dining Hall on the Seminary's campus. Attendees who wish to receive CEUs for the workshop and/or lecture need to register below.

April 12, 2018 at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Pittsburgh, Pa.

9:00 a.m. "Missional Engagement," a workshop for faith leaders to help congregations imagine a missional vision for being outward focused.

11:30 a.m. Chapel Service: "Troublemakers" (Acts 16:16-20)

4:00 p.m. Public Lecture: "Re-examining the Importance of Wesleyan Anthropology for Racial Conversations" This time together will discuss race through a Wesleyan lens with the goal of a more fruitful dialogue.

Chapel and the public lecture are free and open to the public.

About the Lecture Series

The Albright-Deering Lecture Series in Methodist Studies were established in 1999 through individual contributions and a generous gift from Joseph and Gail Deering of Dayton, Ohio, to celebrate Joseph's career accomplishments and to honor their former pastor, The Rev. Dr. H. Pat Albright. The lectureship is intended to bring outstanding scholars in the Wesleyan tradition to Pittsburgh Theological Seminary's campus.
