The 2015 Kelso Lecturer is Cecile M. Springer, president of Springer Associates in Pittsburgh, Pa. Springer will be speaking on the theme of "The Legacy of Moral Leadership" in honor of Dr. King's life. 

The Kelso Lecture is a celebration of Dr. King's accomplishments and hopes for the future. This year's co-sponsoring congregations are St. Paul’s Baptist Church and Sixth Presbyterian Church. The event is held in cooperation with the East End Cooperative Ministry and is free and open to the public.

Cecile M. Springer has devoted her life and career to social and economic justice, ethical leadership, and community service. Through her work in both the public and private sectors, she has earned distinction in the fields of chemistry, regional land use planning, environmental analysis, and advanced energy technologies. Graduating from Wellesley College with a master’s degree in chemistry in 1954, Springer began her career as a research chemist for Bristol Meyers. In 1970 she took a position as a principal planner for the Southwestern Pennsylvania Commission. In 1971, Springer earned a second master’s degree from the University of Pittsburgh and in 1974 became the national spokesperson for the Westinghouse Corporation’s Advanced Energy Systems Division. In 1978 she went on to become president of the Westinghouse Foundation, providing grants for community development, strategic planning, and energy development. In 1989, Springer formed her own firm, Springer Associates, to continue working on strategic planning and development with communities in Southwestern Pennsylvania and around the country.

Springer has served on many boards and committees, including the Women and Girls Foundation of SWPA, Carnegie Museum of Natural History, and Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. She also has received many awards for her distinguished service, including the National Association of Social Workers Public Citizen of the Year, Distinguished Daughter of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, Carlow University Woman of Spirit, and University of Pittsburgh Legacy Laureate (the highest alumni award given by the university).
