The annual Henderson Lectures were held May 2, 2014. Deborah Haarsma, president of BioLogos Foundation in Grand Rapids, Mich., presented three lectures on the theme "Galaxies, Genes, and the Glory of God: Intersections of Science and Christian Faith."

"Engaging Science in the Life of Your Congregation" Science and technology are integral to modern western life, yet Christians are often perceived to be opposed to science. How can this stereotype be corrected? What could it look like to engage science more effectively in local churches? Science can enhance the church’s ministry in evangelism, discipleship, environmental stewardship, and service to the poor. Most of all, science can enrich our worship of the God who created it all.

"Christian Perspectives on Creation, Design, Evolution, and Human Origins" Christians today hold a range of views on origins. The most prominent debates are between young earth creationism and atheistic evolution; this talk will review other positions, including old earth creationism, intelligent design, and evolutionary creationism. Come for an introduction to the key scientific evidence around origins from astronomy, geology, paleontology, and genetics, and how it all intersects with the Bible and human significance.

"God and the Universe" The psalmist wrote, “The heavens declare the glory of God.”  What is modern astronomy revealing about God? The discoveries of the last 100 years have transformed our understanding of the universe and its expansion, and even introduced the possibility that our universe is part of a much larger multiverse. Come for a tour of a universe, from extrasolar planets to baby stars, from galaxies to dark matter, all seen through the eyes of faith.
