Pittsburgh Theological Seminary Professor of World Christianity the Rev. Dr. Scott Sunquist will begin a new position as dean of the School of Intercultural Studies at Fuller Theological Seminary July 1, 2012. 

"Professor Sunquist’s significant contributions have made an indelible impression on the entire PTS community including friends of the Seminary, faculty, staff, students, alums, and mission workers around the world. We wish Scott well as he and his wife move across the country to begin this new ministry," said the Rev. Dr. William J. Carl III, president and professor of homiletics. 

Sunquist joined the faculty at PTS in 1995 after serving for eight years as lecturer in church history, ecumenics, and Asian Christianity at Trinity Theological College in the Republic of Singapore. He was also the pastor of Covenant Presbyterian Church in Singapore for three years. Sunquist received his bachelor’s from the University of North Carolina, his M.Div. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, and his Ph.D. from Princeton Theological Seminary. He has also worked for six years as a campus staff member for Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship both in Virginia and in Massachusetts. Sunquist’s main interests are in the areas of Christian mission, evangelism, and world Christian history. He lectures around the world, and his list of publications is extensive. He has written in the areas of mission theology, pluralism, and Asian Christianity and at present is doing research and writing on historiography, missiology, and Christianity in the non-Western world. Sunquist is the editor of the Dictionary of Asian Christianity (Eerdmans) and is the co-author with Dr. Dale Irvin of History of the World Christian Movement, in two volumes (Orbis Books). He also co-edited with his daughter, Caroline Becker, A History of Presbyterian Missions, 1944-2007 (WJK). He is the recipient of two Luce Foundation grants and has been in-residence at the Center for Theological Inquiry. In addition to his teaching, Sunquist was instrumental in the establishment of the World Mission Initiative at PTS and the extracurricular program World Christian Discipleship.
