Music and the Art of Leading through Change
Leaders
Bill Carter blends his work as a jazz composer and his calling as a Presbyterian pastor. Walking the dotted line between the sacred and the secular, he preaches sermons each week at First Presbyterian Church of Clarks Summit, Pa., and makes music with jazz musicians throughout the northeast. A graduate of Binghamton University (SUNY) and Princeton Theological Seminary, he has taught jazz piano and composition at Marywood University in Scranton, Pa., for the past 18 years.
A faculty member for the CREDO program of the PC(USA) Board of Pensions, he is the founder of the Presbybop Quartet, a jazz ensemble that presents concerts and jazz worship services around the country. Over the course of his career, he has made music with Phil Woods, Dave Brubeck, Bobby McFerrin, and David Liebman, among many others. He is the author of eight books, and travels widely as a speaker, teacher, workshop leader, and jazz pianist.
Stuart Malina is a conductor, pianist, orchestrator, and composer living in the Harrisburg, Pa., area. Currently music director of the Harrisburg Symphony (since 2000) and principal guest conductor of the Florida Orchestra in the Tampa Bay area (since 2012), he has guest conducted many orchestras throughout the United States and internationally. In 2003, he won a Tony Award with Billy Joel for his work on the Broadway musical “Movin’ Out”. He is a graduate of Harvard University, the Yale School of Music, and the Curtis Institute of Music.

Overview
Join us for a deep conversation exploring change and transition with PresbyBop leader and pastor Bill Carter and Harrisburg Symphony's maestro and Movin'Out's Tony Award-winning music director Stuart Malina as they talk about making old things new and using the art of improvisation to deepen our understanding of leadership through change.
This event is a public offering through the annual conference of the Transitional Ministry Education Consortium (TMEC).

CEUs: 3 CEUs are available upon request for clergy and laity.
Directions: Knox Room, Long Hall, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, 616 N. Highland Ave., Pittsburgh, PA. Free parking is available on campus behind the chapel and library. Signs from the parking lot will indicate the event location. Directions are available.
