The M.T.S. at PTS

Pittsburgh Theological Seminary offers a hybrid Master of Theological Studies (M.T.S.) degree where our customizable curriculum engages scriptural study and features theological research courses. Students focus their studies on one or more theological disciplines to prepare for future graduate study, Christian education careers, or general education purposes. To further customize their seminary degree, a Graduate Certificate in Urban Ministry can be incorporated into the curriculum. At the end of the theological studies program, each student completes a final project that deeply explores a chosen area of concentration.

Master of Theological Studies
The M.T.S. degree program provides maximum flexibility to define a customized course of study as the basis for further study or general enrichment.

“Rather than trying to give us answers, my professors have invited us along on a journey.”

Karris Jackson, Student

Our Master of Theological Studies program offers two tracks: General or Focused. Within the Focused Track, students can specialize in Scripture and Its Interpretation or Christian Theology and Traditions. At Pittsburgh Seminary, our M.T.S. degree is designed to be both academically rigorous and flexible by offering significant electives throughout the theology curriculum. Students in the M.T.S. program can select the courses that will best benefit their theological research. Additionally, courses are offered in a hybrid format, so classes meet synchronously online and in person twice per semester.
