The Miller Summer Youth Institute (SYI) at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary invites applications to its summer fellowship program. Join us!
June 1-July 14, 2023
The Miller Summer Youth Institute at Pittsburgh Theological Seminary and its staff invite applications for its six-week living-learning fellowship program that will take place on the Seminary's campus.
The fellowship cohort will work with experts from congregations, non-profits, and from across higher education on the program theme, "Listening to the Land: Cultivating Hope through Spiritual Practice and Theological Reflection in a Time of Crisis." SYI fellows will also participate in experiential learning activities at Garfield Community Farm, our community partner for the summer. Fellows will have ample opportunity to engage in theologically formative activities intersecting with questions of vocational discernment, spiritual practice, and community development.
Monday and Tuesday mornings will be dedicated to workshops, with Monday and Tuesday afternoons dedicated to small group discussion. Wednesdays will be reserved for exploring the City of Pittsburgh, the rich outdoor opportunities in Western Pennsylvania, and the neighborhoods surrounding PTS. Thursdays will be experiential learning days at Garfield Community Farms led by the Rev. John Creasy. Friday, Saturdays, and Sundays will be time off for rejuvenation, worship, and leisure.
Successful applicants will receive $1,000 for full participation in the program. Room, board, travel stipends, and funding for activities in the City of Pittsburgh will also be provided.
Interested in joining the SYI fellowship program? We are accepting applications for Summer 2023. Apply online! Preference will be given to students who have completed at least four full semesters of undergraduate study; for strong rising sophomores, consideration will be given with a compelling recommendation. Application deadline: May 1, 2023.
